The humanitarian community is increasingly confronted with long-term protracted crises. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) solutions that are limited to short-term measures are not appropriate in these settings. There is a need for WaSH solutions that are modular, transportable and resource efficient with low requirements for operation and maintenance.
Biomass Controls is developing a grey and blackwater treatment system with low energy and water demand. Such solutions are applicable for humanitarian and emergency settings, as well as community settings such as informal settlements in urban and peri-urban areas.
The solution consists of two containerized units:
1. A user facility with individual flush toilets, waste bins, handwashing facilities, water access, liquid and solid treatment.
2. A Biogenic Refinery for thermal treatment of all biowaste including solids from wastewater treatment and hygiene products.
